EDITORIAL STANDARDS
How we review our guidance
Policy & Proof publishes practical educational guidance about insurance requirements and paperwork. We explain what the available evidence supports, distinguish summaries from policy language, and identify when the answer depends on the actual policy, contract, state, carrier, or facts.
OUR APPROACH
We prefer primary sources, check important claims against supporting material, and revise guidance when material facts change. Our content is educational and does not replace the policy, endorsements, contract, or advice from a licensed professional.
HOW WE WORK
How we research and maintain our guidance
We make practical guidance useful without overstating what a general explanation can prove. We use reliable sources, distinguish general guidance from controlling documents, and update content when material facts change.
Sources we prefer
We prioritize primary sources: policy forms and endorsements, official carrier or regulator materials, statutes, and agency guidance. Secondary sources may explain context, but they do not replace controlling language.
How we handle uncertainty
Insurance answers often depend on the policy, contract, state, carrier, and facts. When a point cannot be stated confidently, we identify the uncertainty and what needs to be checked.
Editorial review & updates
Important factual claims are reviewed against supporting material before publication. We revisit guidance when laws, forms, market practices, or other material facts change.
Corrections
We correct material errors or misleading statements. Significant changes are reflected on the page instead of leaving outdated guidance in place.
OUR SCOPE
What this guidance does — and does not do
Policy & Proof provides general educational information about commercial-insurance requirements. It does not provide legal advice, insurance advice, coverage determinations, or guarantees that a document or policy satisfies a contract.
What this guidance can help with
Understanding common commercial-insurance requirements and documents, identifying questions or proof to gather, and preparing for a more productive conversation with your insurance professional.
What this guidance does not do
It does not interpret a specific policy or contract for you, determine or guarantee coverage, or provide individualized insurance or legal advice.
The actual policy, endorsements, contract terms, and applicable law ultimately determine the outcome.
